Leadership Without Title

Influence when nobody reported to you.

MBA track · 5 questions0/5

What they expect

The decision you made, the people you moved, and what changed because you were there. MBA classrooms and internships run on influence, not hierarchy. Undergrad files run on clubs, jobs, teams, and family duty — same test, smaller stage.

A strong signal

You locate your own actions in a messy group. You changed someone’s mind or someone’s behaviour. You can say what you would do differently. Title is optional; agency is not.

A weak tell

“I managed a team of six” with no decision inside it. Leadership as a list of offices held. A story where you were simply in charge and things went well.

Why this angle exists

They are hiring a classmate who will move a case discussion and a teammate who will move a project when the org chart is flat — which it will be.

Canadian flavour

Ivey and Rotman both flag influence without authority in official or debriefed material. Ivey AEO is famous for this at 17–18. Do not costume a cafeteria dispute in corporate language; they can hear it.
